AtomSpam works quietly in the background while your receiving your mail, as your mail comes in each message is scanned using a set of internal rules and filters. Finally if a message passes through the internal rules and filters then a final check is done by a quick query to the AtomSpam server to see if the AtomSpam community has marked this message as spam, and if so it is move to your spam folder.
