How does Rosetta Stone work? Through voices of native speakers and thousands of photographs, you'll get a feel for Latin language and culture. You'll learn to quickly associate words with pictures. Different lessons and units are available. You'll focus on five different skills: Listening & Reading, Listening, Reading, Speech Recognition and Dictation. The Listening & Reading sections teach by having you match spoken phrases to written phrases or pictures. There are several different exercises that require good listening skills and matching skills. The Speech Recognition exercises, using a microphone, let you compare your own speech and pronunciation to that of a native Latin speaker. The voiceprint window will compare the pitch (melody), emphasis (stress/loudness) and the form (shape of the sounds) of your pronunciation and the native speaker's. You'll be able to see the comparisons on the screen, which will show you where you'll need to lift your voice in pitch or stress syllables.
