Python is a high-level programming language that is suitable for simple scripting tasks as well as writing large applications. MacPython offers alot of Mac-specific extensions, including access to all major MacOS Toolbox modules (Cocoa, Carbon, QuickTime, AppleScript), an Integrated Development Environment and a Package Manager to easily add more functionality. MacPython includes a normal unix interpreter for use from the command-line, CGI scripting, etc. Source is also available, as is a slightly more limited version that runs on Mac OS 9 (or 8.6 with CarbonLib) as well as on OSX.
