The security of our Windows-based personal computers is so poor that protecting yourself and your personal and private data is almost entirely your responsibility. One of the biggest challenge is to have control over the executable programs. Does the end user really have control over the executable programs? You might be aware that PE viruses, executable Christmas/birthday cards, screen savers that are coming in via e-mail and gets activated as soon you open the e-mail. Also there are many application that can be started on your system by a remote user without your knowledge. Then you have autorun.inf which is a simple text-based configuration file that tells the operating system which executable to start, which icon to use, and which additional menu commands to make available. In other words, autorun.inf can start a program without the intention of the user. Safe execute maintains a white list of executable programs. Safe execute allows only the programs in its white list. You can register any number of executable programs to Safe execute white list. This protects you from e-mail viruses which come in as attachments and starts execution without your knowledge or autorun programs that starts as soon as you connect a USB storage on put a DVD.
