iNanotube is an app for the iPhone and iPad that renders a carbon nanotube (an atomic scale wire) graphically in stunning 3d representations. Designed by an esteemed professor of engineering, the code utilizes advanced 3d rendering hardware for a smooth, seamless graphical representation of the atomic structure of this advanced nanotechnology. The user can manipulate and even construct these tiny wires using the touch screen interface, by rolling a sheet of graphene (a one-atom thin sheet of carbon atoms, whose discovery earned the Nobel Prize in 2010) into the form of a tube: a carbon nanotube. This allows for incredible, direct virtual interaction with tiny structures much too small to be seen with even the worlds most powerful microscopes. With this app, the iPhone and iPad platform allow the world of nanotechnology to come alive literally in the user's own hands. An included tutorial explains in simple terms the importance of the detailed 3d structure for practical applications.
