PrEP (pre-exposure prophylaxis) is HIV medication (truvada) you take daily to prevent HIV infection. PrEP is for HIV negative individuals who have ongoing exposures or HIV positive partners. PEP (post-exposure prophylaxis) is HIV medication (truvada and raltegravir or dolutegravir) taken within 72 hours after being exposed to HIV. Treatment is taken for 28 days and any licensed prescriber can prescribe PEP.
