Overview:

BuddySpace extends the old 'buddy list' concept to provide enhanced visual and map-based presence management capabilities. In addition to conventional Instant Messaging features, BuddySpace allows customizable visualizations for presence, including maps, logical layouts such as building schematics, and project timelines. We are also studying the semantics of presence, in order to move beyond simple flags such as 'online' and 'busy' to include rich contextual, spatial and temporal information. Based on open source Jabber technology, the cross-platform Java implementation uses a clean plug-in architecture that encourages 'skinning' and the addition of experimental modules. Version 2.5 adds ability to specify own nickname in response to group chat invitation as well as test login and reply indicator features.
