Overview:
Manet (1832-1883) was one of the first 19th century artists to approach modern life subjects of the day. He was a pivotal figure in the transition of styles from Realism to Impressionism. His approach engendered controversy with the established art world, and served as a rallying point for young painters who would create new forms. Today these are considered watershed paintings that mark the genesis of modern art. This art slideshow displays each masterpiece for up to 16 minutes per image before softly blending into the next.
