Overview:

Degas (1834-1917) was one of the true founders of the impressionism movement, although he disliked the term and thought of himself as working in realism, his work actually traversed many artistic styles. His paintings display his mastery in the depiction of movement, apparent in his studies of dancers and of racehorses, and he liked to project how we view active scenes by cropping subjects awkwardly and by choosing unusual viewpoints. Of course all this along with his alternating vivid use of rich and chromatic color. This art slideshow displays each masterpiece for up to 16 minutes per image before softly blending into the next.
